A Spring time visit to a friend’s ranch near Stephenville, Texas resulted in a couple of pleinair pieces which inform and inspired this larger work. Clouds were racing by, creating gaps and shafts of light to the newly awakening ranch land. Three large, mature, and tough old trees stand guard over the east end of the “Picnic Tank” pond. This scene catches the majesty of these old oaks as a new year of growth begins all around them.
